In July of 1931, C.D. “Pat” Farnsworth opened Farnsworth’s Cafe serving ice cream and confections to the residents of Orono, Maine. Through long hours and hard work, Pat saw the cafe evolve into a full-service restaurant and in 1953, added the now-famous pizza to his menu. The fresh dough pizza, made with a special sauce developed by Pat and his wife, Fran, was an instant success. It was this “simple” change that transformed Farnsworth’s Cafe into “Pat’s Pizza.”
Over the years, Pat’s Pizza has become an undeniable favorite of University of Maine students. In fact, it has been said that an education at the University at Orono is not compete without sampling a Pat’s pizza. Today, Pat’s Pizza is enjoyed across the state with locations in Augusta, Bethel, Ellsworth, Hampden, Lincoln, Newport, North Windham, Presque Isle, Sanford, Scarborough, Yarmouth, and now in Portland’s Historic “Old Port.” In the true tradition of Farnsworth’s Cafe, all Pat’s Pizza restaurants offer friendly, casual and affordable dining for the entire family.
